To my mind, a website starts with your income statement, since any commercial business web site should be managed to make the owner money. Otherwise, you are simply wasting your time.

 

The backbone of any business (online or off)  is to understand your target market, and the internet provides you with a wealth of knowledge about your target audience. I will show you how to use it.

 

Your income statement will tell you which products or service you have right now that are producing profits and what products / services are the most valuable?

 

Once you have that information you can determine exactly how your target market interacts with the internet, are they inclined to use social media networks, do they response to email, are they heavy users of the internet or simply passive users. Will they put their credit card in.

 

After you have determined and segmented your audience, you must position your content to address each element of your audience individually.

 

My target audience looks for me in two ways: “Internet business consulting” (about two searches a day) and “internet marketing consultant” (230) so you will see my navigation focuses on those two core elements of my business.

 

If someone is looking for a Internet busienss consultant, I talk about financial statements and net profits. I feel confident that if someone has typed into a search engine search bar those words they have pretty much told me they are looking for me (or at least someone like me)

 

I also know the first question is always "how much does it cost"?

 

So as you can see on my site, I have my "internet business consulting"prices right at the top of the page. Experience tells me  that most business owners are focused on the bottom line profits!

As an internet marketing professional, I know the impact a specific marketing program will have on the bottom line, but more importantly I understand the how to measure the return on that investment.
