My Website Isn't Making Me Money Why
Existing Website that Does Not Work (Built Years Ago)
The biggest difference in a website that was built a few years ago and a site built today is the search engines (i.e. Google). Search engines have become more efficient in determining if your site is actually relevant to what people are searching for when they enter a search phrase in the query bar.
The other major difference is that programmers and graphics designers are minimized in the development of your website today. Now your knowledge of a specific subject matter is the single most important part of a website!
Gone are the days when a graphics designer, animator, or programmer working part time, can build you a website for a "few hundred dollars" and have that site found by the search engines.
It takes time, money and effort to build a website that the search engines can find but when built properly, a search engine friendly website will pay big measurable dividends.
Market Research
For your site to be FINANCIALLY, successful you must zero in on a specific target audience, and then slowly expand. The way you zero in on a target audience is FIRST by finding out what they want.
With today's technology that is very easy. There are a number of tools that allow you to peek into the mind of your potential customers using key word research. (Basically finding out how (or if ) people are searching for your product and services.)
Keywords are important if you want your website to be found by the search engines. Because the search engine matches the content of your website to the way, people search. Key word research helps you determine whether or not people are searching for your products or services. A good analyst can give you an estimate of how many potential online customers your can reach, what percentage you can expect to visit (and stay on your site) and how to improve your site based on analytics.
Based on the premise that people use their subconscious minds to search (and are creatures of habit) what we type into the search query bar isn't without thought. This is reflected in the way they search. One person may search for a "doctor" while someone else may search for a "physician".
More importantly people's searches phrases follow certain patterns, and if we can identify those key word patterns it makes developing a RELEVANT website that much easier, AND more importantly key word research makes your website much more valuable.
