My Website Isn't Search Engine Friendly

How do I make it easy for the search engines to find my website

Why Your Website Can Not Be Found By the Search Engines

Most website designers are either programmers, or graphic designers, or portals that sell you a listing on their site (Yellow Page), very few are marketing professionals. Unfortunately to have an effective website you need a marketing professional and a programmer and a graphic designer.

But you need them in that order.

The marketing person can do research using internet based software that will tell you specifically how people search for your products and services. This is very important because many people feel that they are at the "top of the search engines" because they are listed first.

For eample if you search for Patrick F Bruce, (or Patrick Bruce) you will find me listed on the first page. Duh; that's my name. However people that do not know me may be looking for "an internet business consultant" or "internet marketing consultant", and that is how I need to be indexed with the search engines.

To make that happen I had to index my site with the right key words and make sure that the software that drives my site feeds Google the information in the format they want it - not the format that is easiest for the programmer.

When you buy a website package from GoDaddy or another website hosting company the software is built so that it is easy for you to build the website. The downside of that is that technology required to allow "anyone to build a website" requires substantial programming that restricts the optimization.

One of the most common mistakes I see at least a few times a month is people that think they have a website when in fact they have a a web page, or worst yet a website that is lost in cyberspace.

This often happens with sites built by the Yellow Pages, or another 'directory service'. In reality, these companies are nothing more than another (albeit very small )search engine.

The problem with these types of services is that if your website resides on "another website" then people have to 'search again' and that defeats the purpose of the person searching. When people search for a internet marketing consultant in Charleston I want them to land on my website. I certainly don't want them to land on another website and then have to search for me again. Or worst yet, have them find my site listed with my competitors, or even find my home page.

I want clients to land on the page that they were searching for, and so should you!

If people are searching for divorce lawyer, they do not want to land on a website that offers "criminal defense", "business law" etc. When they do; you are forcing them to search again, and most people will not do that.Even though a law firm might offer these services, the searcher is looking for a specific subject matter and they should land on that page.

Today's search engines are designed so that if a searcher is looking for a lawyer to help with his / her divorce, they do not want to land on the home page of a major law firm, and have to search again , instead they want to land on a page that is about "divorce lawyers".

Try it yourself type in your business name and see if your site is listed (if not then you are really in a bad situation) then type in your primary service and see if your site comes up on the first page.

If not call me and I will explain to you how to fix it!
